City on the Hill (COTH) is the longest running project of Capitol Resource Institute. For thirty-seven years COTH has equipped high school students to learn how their faith must inform and define their participation in the public square.
John Adams stated that our U.S. Constitution "was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." How true those words are! It our right and our responsibility, therefore, to become a moral and religious people capable of protecting the torch of liberty passed on to us from the Founding Fathers.
The perpetuation of a free society depends on the willingness of individual citizens to become well informed, and to prepare themselves to be confident, qualified servant leaders. This is the aim of City on the Hill.
While no experience is necessary, we seek students who have a deep desire to understand the political process and those who want to solidify their Christian worldview, understanding that this is the foundation from which our words, actions, and beliefs must flow.
We welcome applicants from throughout the nation. Participants are selected based on their application and pastoral reference to participate in a fun, informative, and impactful week at Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA.
Highlights of the program include panel discussions on current social and political topics, workshops on the legislative process, public speaking, and other related topics. As a COTH legislator and member of either the Constitutional or Patriot Party, you'll research, present, and defend an actual bill that has been presented in a state legislature.
Additionally, students and staff participate in nightly worship and small group Bible studies. We seek to be guided by God's word, so the small group setting allows for open conversation and deeper discussion about how to apply the important principles you'll investigate during your week at City on the Hill. Recreational activities and fun entertainment will also be provided in the evenings to give everyone a great opportunity to get to know one another. You can expect to make some new and lasting friendships at City on the Hill 202
CITY ON THE HILL 2024 WILL BE HELD JULY 7-JULY 12 AT PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY. APPLICATIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE SOON! APPLICATIONS ARE DUE NO LATER THAN JUNE 14, 2024 AND SPACE IS LIMITED.
